Girlfriend's revelation leaves family shocked

DEAR ABBY: My son and his live-in girlfriend were expecting a baby. My daughter planned the shower, and it was a wonderful eight months of excitement. I was included in the ultrasounds and all information, and we were all anticipating the big day.

Holiday Craft Show

All the clubs of the Portage County Gardeners will work together to host a Holiday Craft Show from 4 to 8 p.m. Oct. 13 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 14. Several tables of hand-crafted items by members and other crafters will be available for holiday shopping.

Is it ripe?

Dear Heloise: I like fruit and vegetables, but I have a hard time telling WHEN THEY'RE RIPE. And after they're ripe, I try to eat them, but I end up tossing out overripe fruit when I can't get around to eating them. How do I tell if an avocado is ripe, or berries or bananas? -- Logan M.

Rootstown grad selected for KSU homecoming court

KENT -- Eoin Rude, son of Rootstown residents Cindy and John Rude, has been selected as a member of the Kent State University 2017 Homecoming Court. Rude is a 2014 graduate of Saint Thomas Aquinas High School. He is currently a senior at Kent State majoring in musical theatre.

St. Patrick students, staff commemorate Patriot Day

St. Patrick School in Kent celebrated Patriot Day with a flag ceremony to remember the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, attack. The students and staff gathered around the flag pole as members of the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts raised the flag. The Scouts were led by Marco Condos and Pat Warczak.
