Upson R. Kyte

Upson R. Kyte "Paratrooper" The sun has made its descent upon another of America's Greatest Generation, Upson R. Kyte 94 of Streetsboro who died Sunday September 17, 2017 two days before the anniversary of his beloved wife's passing.

He was born December 23, 1922 in Newcomerstown, Ohio to the late Upson A. and Laura A. (Robinson) Kyte. Preceding him was his wife Barbara (Henry) Kyte, an infant son and his brother John who was KIA in WW II. Uppie was a learned man. He attended Kiske Boys School, graduated from Buchtel High School in Akron and Kent State. Upson was a retired teacher and coach for Akron Public Schools System. He spent many years at Innes JR. High giving his love and attention to many young students whom he and Barb took fishing at Bob's Lake in Canada. One 8th Grade basketball team, consisting of Jim Gaffgon, Richard "Herbie" Herbert and Steve "Steep" Hilla and love always kept him in their hearts. Uppie was a proud veteran of the US Army, serving in both WWII and the Korean War. He proudly served with the 11th Airborne Division Reconnaissance Unit in the Pacific Campaign with tours in the Marshall Islands, New Guinea, Okinawa and the Philipines. He joins his fellow comrades Captain Rotten, Lonnie, Bill Smeal, Joe and Dan Aden, Woodie, old man Earl, Jess Walton, Ernest Alfred, Hambie, Julis Allsaser, Leon Larr, Biros Wells and Dave Hambi. He earned three bronze stars, silver star and two purple hearts.

Survivors include his devoted companion Dianna J. Scott, his canine buddy Newman, his three amigos Herbie, Jim, Steep, Bill Fusner, Don Winters and neighbors the Fascos, Houghs and Plaso families.

Memorial services will be 2:00 PM Saturday September 30, 2017 at the Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Homes Streetsboro Chapel. Burial with military honors will be 11:00 AM Monday October 2, 2017 at the Ohio Western Reserve Cemetery Rittman, Ohio. To all his blood brothers; Airborne All the Way!
