Marc Dwyane Haiflich, 69, passed away on September 24, 2017, at UH Cleveland with his family by his side. Marc was born on August 8, 1948, to Dwayne and Patse Haiflich in Ravenna, Ohio. Marc grew up in Ravenna, attended Ravenna schools and graduated from Ravenna High School in 1966. He attended Kent State University until he was drafted by the United States Army in August, 1969. Marc served honorably in Vietnam for 14 months as a financial clerk. He was fortunate to make some lifelong friends during his time in Vietnam and they continued to get together every year. After his discharge, he returned to Kent State University and obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Education.
Eventually, Marc decided to follow in his father's footsteps and became an independent manufacturer's representative for D.W. Haiflich & Co. in the kitchen cabinet and design industry. He designed many kitchens using CAD programs that he taught himself to use and built many kitchens from his designs. Marc was very mechanically inclined. He could build things and he could fix just about anything. It didn't matter if it was a motorcycle, electronics or carpentry. He was also a very skilled woodworker.
He was a member of the Ravenna Elks Club for 44 years and a past Exalted Ruler at the club. He enjoyed spending time at the Elks with friends and at the Italian American Club playing bocce. Marc also enjoyed long motorcycle rides on his Harley Davidson with The Mauve Gang. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren at Muzzy Lake on the pontoon boat and fishing.
Marc is survived by his daughter, Melissa (Derick) Trautman of Ravenna, son Zachary (Jill) Haiflich of Cave Creek, AZ, grandchildren Shane and Connor Trautman, Sophia and Wyatt Haiflich, sister, Sherry Haiflich of Soquel, CA., Aunt Barbara Brode of Ravenna, ex-spouse and friend Emmy Haiflich and her mother Helen Dudek, as well as many cousins and friends too numerous to mention! He was preceded in death by his parents Dwayne and Patse.
Marc's wishes for cremation are being honored. Friends and family will be received Friday, September 29, 2017, from 4:00 5:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E Main St., Ravenna. An Elks Service will be conducted by the PER Association of the Ravenna Elks at 5:00 PM, with a memorial service officiated by Pastor Timothy Paroz following. The services at the funeral home will conclude with military honors provided by the US Army. Afterwards, all of Marc's friends and family are invited to continue celebrating his life at the Ravenna Elks Lodge.
The family would like to thank all of Marc's friends at the Ravenna Elks, who came to his aid to provide immediate medical attention, especially his dear friend Marcy. A special thank you to Aunt Barbara Brode and cousin Lisa O'Neil for being by his side at UH Portage until he was transferred to Cleveland. Thank you to the Portage UH ER staff and the doctors and nurses at UH Cleveland Neuroscience ICU for their excellent care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Ravenna Elks Scholarship Fund in Marc's memory.
